Emily Melrose will be 1 year old on 12th February 2008. She was born at 26 weeks and weighed 900g (1lb 15oz). The nurses at the Simpsons were brilliant for the 16 weeks we spent there. Emily had to go home on oxygen and unfortunately she has been into the Sick Kids twice with respiratory viruses and this has meant she still needs oxygen through the night. But she is doing really well and is a happy wee soul who loves to laugh. We can't believe it has been a year since she was born! |

We have 3 daughters, but it is our second daughter Aislinn who started her life in the Neonatal Unit at the old Simpsons Memorial Hospital.Aislinn (Ryan) will be 10 on the 9th December. It's hard to believe that it is almost 10 years since she was born 13 weeks early weighing only 540g(1lb3oz). We brought Aislinn home with oxygen support after 16 weeks. At first her chronic lung disease was of most concern, alongwith her poor appetite. However, as she got older these concerns diminished, and her motor skills became more of an issue. She finally walked when she was 2yrs6mths. Apart from having a mild haemaplegia (cerebral palsy) and wearing a leg splint, she lives a very full and normal life. We remember being told at her birth, when she had a fifty fifty chance of surviving, that she was a fighter, and so she is today. She won't let anything beat her! We owe her life to all the dedicated neonatal staff, and thank them for their expertise and attention. Aislinn would love to come and visit you sometime soon. |

Thank you for my 5th birthday card. I have just spent a wonderful day celebrating with my best friends from nursery. We went on a forest walk then played in adventure playground in Kirroughtree Forest before rain eventually stopped play! Had a great birthday tea when we got home. I was born at 27weeks gest. weighing 2lbs 11ozs. 15/02/02. I spent 13 days in salisbury ward then i was transferred to old Cresswell Maternity hospital Dumfries. After 3 nights there I was moved into the new Cresswell maternity wing at Dumfries Infirmary. I did a fair bit of globetrotting in a short space of time!!! got home from hospital three weeks before my due date. Thanks to the wonderful staff in both cresswell and Simpsons I got off to a great start and haven't looked back. My mum can't keep me in trousers as I am growing so tall. I start school in August and i am really looking forward to that big adventure. Mum and dad often wonder about all the other little fighters who shared the ward with me and send their regards to any who might chance upon this message. They hope things turned out well. Thanks again for everything you did for us. we will keep in touch. love to all. Roddy xxx |

They are amazing little girls and I cant thank the docs and nurses who cared for them enough. I will definitely be sending away an order for the xmas cards. I'm glad someone emailed me this website. I'd just like to say a huge thank you' to everyone at the Neonatal Unit. Our son, Craig has just had his first birthday and it's down to the care and attention he received at Simpsons. He arrived 3 months early on the 26th Feb 2003, weighing in at 1lb 14. During the 4 month stay in the unit we got to know a lot of you really well and you will always have a place in our hearts.:::::: |

This website has brought back special memories for us. Our daughter,Nicola Louise, was born in 1998 weighing just 895grammes.She spent nine weeks in Simpson's before being taken to Dumfries and then eventually home.Nicola started primary school in August and has the energy of 10 kids. The care she received and the support we as parents received from Doctors,Nurses and staff will live with us for the rest of our lives. |

Hi. I got a letter out of the blue last week with details of your Christmas cards - great, an order will be with you shortly. You may not remember me, but I did a fundraising thing six years ago when I baked a cake and decorated it with the SSCB logo and got people to pay to guess the weight of the cake. I then brought the cake to the old Simpsons where it was put on the baby scales then given to the staff to eat. That was all as a result of my god-daughter, Eilidh Munro, having beeen a patient with you for some 3 and a half months after her birth in June 1996. I now have two healthy children of my own, Kirsty aged 4 and a half, and Ross aged 1, neither of whom needed any special care thankfully, but I will never forget my many visits to the neonatal unit at the "old" Simpsons. |

Good job on the website Gill. Will be putting our christmas card order through shortly.::::We had an experience which led to us using the SSCB - unfortunately our story is not a happy one but that in no way reflects the care given by the unit. It was just that that led us to hold a fundraiser for money to go towards the purchase of an EEG machine.::::Keep up the good work and hopefully we will hold something similar in the future to once again raise funds for this crucial unit. |

Your web site is fantastic!! I will be a regular visitor from now on.::::Keith and I spent almost 5 months at Simpson's with our second child, Ryan. Ryan was extremely sick. He is now a normal, healthy boy with a sunny disposition and a wicked determination!::::We will be forever indebted to all at Simpson's for saving Ryan. Your knowledge and expertise left us in awe. Each and every one of you is a credit to your profession.::::Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything.::::Always, Tania Hutchison:: |

Both our boys passed through the Neo Natal Unit, Calum in 1991 (nine and a half weeks early, first 5 days were critical) and Dale in 1994 (six weeks early). Both are just normal healthy boys enjoying school/football/music etc etc...::::My wife and I are indebted to the staff that looked after our boys in their hour of need and can never thank them enough.::::This web site is a great idea and looks the business. I've added it to my favourites and would encourage the development of an online donation method (Paypal/Nochex?).::::I've been known to run the odd 10K for fun and would love to know that I could raise a few pounds for the Unit's Charity and donate via this website (and maybe encourage a few others to do the same!)::::Keep up the good work! |
